MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS® Derby Hat Countdown – 97 of 101

Welcome to A Derby Hat Countdown featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!

Today I would like to introduce a very special chapeau, the “Katie” from my Derby Hat Collection…

I created the original “Katie” hat years ago for one of my “Derby ladies” who wanted the widest brim I could create that would still fit through a door! I fashioned a 22-inch wide hat in silver dupioni silk and trimmed her with a lavish silver satin bow lined with matching silk organza and accented with rosettes.

I have had a craving for warm, vibrant colors during this chilly gray winter weather including fuchsia, pink and that deep freesia yellow that is so popular right now. How, I wondered, would my Katie look wearing such bold colors? I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad that I did!

The new “Katie” chapeau in deep yellow dupioni silk with a fuchsia silk underbrim, is trimmed with a lavish freesia and fuchsia silk bow with a single large hot pink organza rose curl, spring green leaves and fuchsia netting.

The “Katie” is the kind of hat that could very well steal the show at Churchill Downs and make all your Derby dreams come true!
