The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!
Our hat for today is the “Annabelle” medium brim chapeau that is found in Salon 3 of the Derby Hat Collection at maggiemae.com.
The original Annabelle design featuring a fuchsia burnt floral linen print has been a favorite for the Derby and fancy teas since she was introduced…
This Derby season I have had a major craving for polka dots. It seemed to me that the Annabelle shape would be perfectly suited to playful polka dots amidst a classic palette of black, red and white for the 140th Run for the Roses.
I created the Annabelle hat foundation in black and white cotton with a bold red silk underbrim for an element of surprise when the wearer’s face is upturned.I fashioned a simple red silk sash with matching leaves as the setting for a large red silk organza rose curl.
The “butterfly wings” of the back brim add a special twist to the hat. And for the final touch, there is a tiny red button in the back.
For anyone like me who loves playful polka dots, the new Annabelle is PERFECT!
