The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!
Today we are featuring Hat #63, “Liza Der13-104”, a wide brim Derby chapeau that is found in Derby Hat Salon 1 at maggiemae.com.
I have always had a fondness for the Liza. It was one of my earliest designs in the Derby Hat Collection and for a long time she was one of my widest brims measuring approximately 17.5 inches end to end. Customers still tell me the Liza is so easy to wear and even easier to love. And as you can see, the Liza has many different “looks” depending upon how she is trimmed and shaped!
The Liza Der13-104 was the result of a customer request for a classic wide brim style in white silk featuring blue turquoise and sea green trims. I created the hat in white dupioni silk and trimmed it with a turquoise taffeta sash.
I fashioned a single large blue turquoise shantung and organza rose curl which I set into a bed of matching shantung leaves.
For added drama I circled swirling layers of green and blue turquoise tulle around the crown and let them spill over the brim.
I think you’ll agree that this grand Lady is simply scrumptious and fits the bill for just about any occasion, including the Derby!
