MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS Derby Hat Countdown – 57 of 101

The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!

Today we are featuring Hat #57, the “Liza Der13-099”, a wide brim Derby chapeau that is found in Derby Hat Salon 1 at

Several years ago a lovely lady named Kaye asked me if I could create a “Liza” style Derby hat to match her Derby dress. Her dress was a mixture of yellows, pinks, greens and browns in a playful plaid pattern.

For the foundation of the “Liza” design I began with a chocolate brown dupioni silk base.

I then created a large Marguerite using hot pink, soft tangerine and lemon yellow organza for the petals and a tiny spray of yummy chocolate tulle for the center.

I created a hot pink shantung sash, adorned the back seam with hot pink buttons, and swirled chocolate brown tulle around the crown until it filled the brim.

When Kaye received her Liza she said that the hat matched the dress to a T. She and Liza were ready for their Derby adventure!

  1. I love Liza’s big, bright flower! These colors blend very well together. Keep up the great presentation work. You’ve been working very hard on this campaign and I just wanted to let you know it is not going unnoticed! 😸
