I am a big fan of hot pink and polka dots and thought it would be fun this year to create a hat full of polka dot pink pizzazz for the Kentucky Oaks on Ladies’ Day at Churchill Downs.

I began by designing a hat base in a rich fuchsia dupioni silk that tapers slightly toward the back giving a look of intrigue as well as a bit of dazzle.

For the centerpiece I fashioned a rose curl out of hot pink organza and framed it with fuchsia dupioni silk leaves and sprays of black veiling.

Blog-GeenaDer206-001FTo satisfy my polka dot passion, I fashioned a sash out of black and white polka dot fabric and swirled it around the crown.

For one final touch I added a twinkling black pebble button to the front of the hat.

The new chapeau was everything I’d hoped for, ready to celebrate Pink Out, the Run for the Lilies and all things PINK on Kentucky Oaks Day at Churchill Downs!
