MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS® Derby Hat Countdown – 15 of 101

The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!

Today we are featuring Hat #15, the “Chelsea”, a medium brim hat design that is found in Derby Hat Salon 3 at

Today I thought it would be fun to showcase a pink Chelsea Derby chapeau to help get the celebrations started for Pink Out Day and the Run for the Lilies at Churchill Downs, now just a couple of weeks away.

I began our “Chelsea” with a rich fuchsia dupioni silk base.  I love the mixing of pink and orange in a color theme and kept this in mind as I proceeded with my design.

Blog-ChelseaDer60-030AI next fashioned a large double bow out of a hot pink/tangerine tweed fabric and lined it with fuchsia silk. I then nestled a rose curl made out of the same fuchsia silk into the bow knot.

For the final touch I encircled the crown with a matching sash and added a hot pink button to the back.

The look was stunning from every angle. The new “Chelsea”, full of bold color and lots of pizzazz, was more than ready to join the grand parade at this year’s Kentucky Oaks celebrations at Churchill Downs!

For more views of the “Chelsea” hat design shown above, please visit the Chelsea Der60-030 webpage at

And don’t forget to visit our KY Derby Hat Collection offering four new Derby hat salons this year. Something for everyone from fascinators to extra wide brims!

Thank you for visiting us here at Hats and Horses for Hat 15 of our Derby Hat Countdown.

Just 14 Derby chapeaux and 14 days to go ’til the 140th Kentucky Derby!
