Today we are featuring Hat #2, the “Vivy Der155-002” design that is found in the Derby Hat Salon 2 at

Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2HatsThe original Vivy Derby chapeau was created in black dupioni silk trimmed with a turquoise rose and swirling tulle.

Blog-VivyDer155-001AThis year I wanted to create a Vivy design that would work well for both for Kentucky Oaks and Derby Day at Churchill Downs.

I began with a black dupioni silk hat foundation that measured close to 18″ at the brim.

Blog-VivyDer155-002EI fashioned a single large rose curl out of alternating layers of bright pink and red organza and satin; adding matching satin leaves to frame the rose.

For a drama boost I fashioned several pink organza “feathers” to accent the rose and spill over the brim edge.

Blog-VivyDer155-002GThen came the luscious TULLE! Layering yards and yards of hot pink and red tulle, I gathered it in the back of the hat in the shape of a loosely curled rose.
