Welcome to the second annual Derby Hat Countdown featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!
Today we are showcasing Hat #100, the “Annabelle”, that is found in Salon 3 of the Derby Hat Collection at maggiemae.com.
Our featured Annabelle was inspired by an original design of the same name, the Annabelle Der7-003, all in hot pink burnt linen. Annabelle’s playful personality, with her unique “butterfly” medium size brim, has made her a fan favorite for fancy teas and garden parties as well as the Derby since her debut.
When I purchased the hot pink fabric for the original Annabelle I also ordered fabric in yellow tones. Yellows are hot this season, including a smooth yellow called Custard, and our yellow Annabelle is in good company to make her entrance this year!
The new Annabelle was fashioned from the yellow print burnt linen, adding a bold yellow linen solid for the underbrim. For the trim centerpiece, a delicate rose curl in lemon organza was added along with a medley of leaves and a sash of rich yellow dupioni silk from China. As I created the hat I wondered if I would like her as much as the original Annabelle in pink. The answer was a resounding Yes! I hope you enjoy her too…
