Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-93HatsPeople have always said that the Kentucky Derby is all about the hats. I would add that it is still and always will be about the horses as well. A while back, I wrote a blog about how I created the “Poppy” hat to celebrate all of the wonderful horses in our lives and to thank them for the many ways in which they serve and inspire us.

I fashioned the Poppy out of a white dupioni silk with a rich red dupioni silk underbrim to frame the face.

The Poppy hat is trimmed with three delicate poppies created in red silk organza with black silk organza centers and leaves. A sash was created out of black taffeta and yards of red and chocolate brown tulle surround the crown. For the final accent, three small black buttons adorn the back seam.

And don’t forget to visit our Derby Hat Collection offering four new Derby hat salons this year featuring Big Brims, Extra Wide Brims, Flappers/Medium Brims, Fascinators, Cocktail Hats and Cloches.

Thank you for visiting us here at Hats and Horses for Hat 93 of our Derby Hat Countdown.

Just 92 Derby chapeaux and 92 days to go ’til the 141st Kentucky Derby!
