The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!
Today we are featuring Hat #84, “Jamie”, a wide brim Derby chapeau that is found in Derby Hat Salon 2 at maggiemae.com.
Years ago I created the original “Jamie” style for a mother of the groom’s wedding celebration.
For this year’s Run for the Roses, I wanted to give the Jamie design a facelift for the Derby season using chocolate polka dots for a bold new look.
I fashioned a 17-inch hat foundation in dupioni silk and added a white silk organza layer to the brim edge, top stitching it with fancy white braiding.
I then took a mocha chocolate organza and fashioned four rose curls, added white silk organza leaves behind them and placed them around the crown against a chocolate and white polka dot chiffon sash.
For the finishing touch, I took glistening chocolate tulle and created wispy “sprays” that I nestled in between the roses, lending a soft, magical quality to the design.
And the new Jamie of the Chocolate Polka Dots makes her grand debut today in the Derby Hat Collection!
