MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS® Derby Hat Countdown – 82 of 101

The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!

Today we are featuring Hat #82, the “Carolina”, a wide brim Derby chapeau that is found in Derby Hat Salon 2 at maggiemae.com.

Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-82HatsThe Carolina first debuted as a wedding hat design. When the Derby season rolled around I thought she might be the perfect chapeau for Churchill Downs which has a long history of wide brim hats.

The Carolina has a flat brim created out of silver dupioni silk. Measuring nearly 22 inches across, one of Carolina’s features is that her brim may be shaped by the wearer in many different ways to give her different looks and attitude.

Blog-CarolinaBR147-001HA rose pink satin sash encircles the crown and five clusters of handcrafted rose-colored rose curls with medleys of silver silk organza leaves frame them. Each floral “nest” is nestled into wispy mounds of soft swirling silver tulle that have been layered over the entire brim.

Blog-CarolinaBR147-001MThe result is a hat that is as grand when viewed from the back as from the front!

Blog-CarolinaBR147-001KOur “Carolina” wide brim chapeau is ready for her grand debut at the Run for the Roses to see the horses prance and hear thousands of voices join to sing “My Old Kentucky Home”. The mint juleps await!
