The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!
Today we are featuring Hat #75, the “Liza”, a wide brim Derby chapeau that is found in Derby Hat Salon 1 at maggiemae.com. I am always searching for new fabrics, and when I found this amazing organza material with polka dots in deep purple, plum and silver, I was immediately inspired to create a “Liza” style Derby chapeau using it for the trims. I fashioned the foundation of the hat out of a rich black dupioni silk for a good contrast to the trim fabric. Next I took my beloved polka dot fabric and fashioned a large bow with long tails and sash, then added a purple shantung rose curl for the center of the bow knot. The result was a wide brim hat that looks amazing from every angle… Full of drama, sophisticated yet decidedly playful, that’s the new Liza of the Purple Dots! Talk about the perfect topper to make a grand entrance with at the Kentucky Derby or Royal Ascot this year… For more views of the “Liza” hat design shown above, please visit the Liza Der13-107 hat webpage at maggiemae.com.
