Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-72HatsOver the years I have created many polka dot hats for customers – big dots, little dots, black on white dots, pink on brown dots, white on navy dots, black on red dots – every combination and size that you can possibly imagine!  There’s just something about polka dots that always seems to make everybody smile.

PopcornDeelitesHat4Recently I created a new Derby “Sallita” hat design to celebrate the magic of polka dots. The “Sallita” style always reminds me of a 1920’s Downton Abbey style hat, and I thought a polka dot print might be fun for the Derby!

I began with a hat foundation created out of dove gray linen in the classic Sallita brim style.

Blog-SallitaDer6-036For the trim centerpiece I created a rose curl out of alternating layers of charcoal and white silk organza, added silver silk organza “leaves” and white veiling for the perfect accents.
