The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!
Today we are featuring Hat #69, the “Miranda’s Sasha” wide brim Derby chapeau that is found in Derby Hat Salon 2 at maggiemae.com.
Several Derby seasons ago a woman named Miranda asked if I could recreate my “Sasha” Derby hat style in different colors. Miranda was giving herself a Derby hat for her birthday to wear to the Run for the Roses and she thought the Sasha would make a dramatic statement.
I used black dupioni silk to fashion the 22-inch Sasha asymmetrical hat foundation. I then fashioned a large Marguerite in alternating petals of black and charcoal silk organza with a medley of black and silver satin leaves to frame it. A simple black button adorned the center of the Marguerite and black netting added a captivating wispy shimmer to the design.
Miranda’s dream for her custom Derby birthday chapeau was now a reality. The two of them were ready for mint Juleps and the call to the post on Derby Day!
