Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-64HatsYears ago I created the original “Jamie” style for a mother of the groom’s wedding celebration.

I also created a custom Jamie several years ago that a lady wore to the Kentucky Oaks. This year I wanted to create an updated version of this Oaks chapeau to give her a fresh look for the Pink Out Day celebrations at Churchill Downs.

I fashioned a 17-inch hat foundation in white dupioni silk and added a white silk organza layer to the brim edge, topstitching it with fancy white braiding.

Blog-JamieDer140-004A I then took a hot pink organza and fashioned a large Marguerite using the organza for the petals and adding hot pink shantung for the center rose curl.

Blog-JamieDer140-004B Next, I created a sash out of hot pink shantung and laid it around the crown, adding a matching hot pink button for the final accent.Blog-JamieDer140-004HOur new “Jamie” chapeau is ready for the Run for the Lilies at the Kentucky Oaks!
