Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-62HatsI love the Liza hat style. Just under 18 inches from side to side, the Liza just somehow always seems like the perfect hat choice for everything from fancy teas to weddings to the Kentucky Derby.

To kick off the new 2015 Derby Hat Collection,  I thought it might be fun to create a Liza that featured one of my favorite color combinations: silver, black and deep rich yellow!

I got started by fashioning a Liza hat foundation in silver dupioni silk.

Blog-LizaDer13-122BI then took deep yellow dupioni silk and soft yellow organza and handcrafted a large rose curl, adding scrumptious black silk organza leaves and a matching silk organza bow to frame it.

Blog-LizaDer13-122DNext, I created a sash out of black satin, laid it around the crown and added a matching black pebble button for the final accent.

Blog-LizaDer13-122GAnd our new “Liza” chapeau makes her debut in the Derby Hat Collection today! The perfect choice not only for Churchill Downs but for weddings, teas, Royal Ascot and beyond.

Just 61 Derby chapeaux and 61 days to go ’til the 141st Kentucky Derby!
