Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-60Hats The Chelsea hat is a popular design for the Derby and Kentucky Oaks. A medium size brim, the Chelsea frames the face beautifully!

This year for Derby, I wanted to create a new Chelsea in bold yellow linen with a rose trim design incorporating silver, yellow and black.

I fashioned the base of the hat out of a deep freesia yellow linen.

Blog-ChelseaDer60-042CFor the trim centerpiece I fashioned a large organza rose curl created out of yellow dupioni silk and soft lemon organza, and framed it with a medley of black and charcoal silk organza leaves.

Blog-ChelseaDer60-042EFor the final touch, I created a pleated sash out of black and charcoal silk organza and laid it around the crown. A black pebble button was stitched to the back.
