The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!
Today we are featuring Hat #49, the “Leslie”, a medium brim hat design found in Salon 3 of the Derby Hat Collection…
Several years ago I started creating “Marguerite” fleurs to trim my hats. Created out of organza petals with rose curl centers, the flowers remind me of daisies dancing in the sunlight. This year I wanted to offer a Chelsea featuring red silk Marguerites for the Run for the Roses!
I got started by fashioning a 16-inch hat foundation in red dupioni silk.
For the trim centerpiece I created 3 medium Marguerites out of red silk organza petals with a rose curl created out of black silk organza for the center. I added a medley of black silk organza leaves to frame each of the Marguerites and laid them across the front brim of the hat in a cascading line.
