MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS® Derby Hat Countdown – 41 of 101

The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!

Today we are featuring Hat #41, the medium brim “Lizzie” chapeau that is found in Salon 3 of the Derby Hat Collection at

Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-41HatsThe Lizzie design was in my original Derby Hat Collection.

Blog-LizzieDer57-001AMeasuring approximately sixteen and a half inches wide, the Lizzie brim frames the face beautifully when the wearer’s face is upturned. This style has many, many different “looks” as you can see if you pop into Salon 3 and take a look.

This year I wanted to create a Lizzie hat in a mix of red and black for the Derby. I fashioned the base of the hat out of red dupioni silk with red silk organza brim layers. I then created a large “pinwheel” style fleur out of red silk and taffeta for the petals and black silk organza for the rose curl center.

I added a black satin sash, black veiling and a black pebble button for additional black accents. The new Lizzie was ready for her debut at the Derby!

For more views of the Lizzie chapeau shown above, please visit the Lizzie hat webpage.

And don’t forget to visit our Derby Hat Collection offering four new Derby hat salons this year featuring Big Brims, Extra Wide Brims, Flappers/Medium Brims, Fascinators, Cocktail Hats and Cloches.
