Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-30Hats-Web.Lg There is something wonderful about the color purple. It just seems that no matter what color you set against it, purple just seems to make them both pop!

Recently I created a new Derby “Sallita” hat design to celebrate the magic of black silk with purple trimmings. I began with a hat foundation created out of black dupioni silk in the classic Sallita brim style.

Blog-SallitaDer6-041B-Web.Med For the trim centerpiece I created a single rose curl out of alternating layers of plum organza and taffeta and framed them with a sprawling medley of purple shantung, lavender taffeta and silver satin leaves.

Blog-SallitaDer6-041D-Web.MedI then fashioned a purple shantung sash to surround the crown. Finally, I added a  purple button to adorn the back.

Blog-SallitaDer6-041E-Web.MedOur new “Sallita” is now ready for her Derby debut at this year’s Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs. She would also make a lovely chapeau for Royal Ascot, Breeders’ Cup or a fancy tea!

And don’t forget to visit our Derby Hat Collection offering four new Derby hat salons this year featuring Big Brims, Extra Wide Brims, Flappers/Medium Brims, Fascinators, Cocktail Hats and Cloches.
