MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS® Derby Hat Countdown – 27 of 101

The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!

Today we are featuring Hat #27, the “Jamie”, a wide brim Derby chapeau that is found in Derby Hat Salon 2 at

Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-27HatsYears ago I created the original “Jamie” style for a mother of the groom’s wedding celebration.

I fashioned a 17-inch hat foundation in dupioni silk and added a white silk organza layer to the brim edge, topstitching it with fancy white braiding.

I then took a dusty lavender organza and fashioned four rose curls, added white silk organza leaves behind them and placed them around the crown against a glistening lavender organza sash.

For the finishing touch, I took dusty lavender tulle and created wispy “sprays” that I nestled in between the roses, lending a soft, magical quality to the design.

The “Jamie” has since then been incredibly popular for weddings. When the hat started getting requests from my Derby hat ladies I was thrilled to add her to the Derby Collection lineup!
