The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!
Today we are featuring Hat #23, the “Liza”, a wide brim Derby chapeau that is found in Derby Hat Salon 1 at maggiemae.com.
Living on Cape Cod near the ocean and the marshes may explain my love for deep blues and sea greens. I also love polka dots. Last Derby season I decided to combine these favorites into a wide brim chapeau!
I began with a luscious white dupioni silk and created a hat base that measured 17″ across.
For the trim I fashioned a large blue and white polka dot-lined navy satin double bow with a matching sash. For the center of the bow, I created a single rose curl out of alternating layers of white silk organza and blue satin, framing it with a medley of mixed green taffeta leaves.
