Today we are featuring Hat #20, the wide brim “Liza” chapeau that is found in Salon 1 of the Derby Hat Collection at

Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-20HatsI have a fondness for the Liza. It was one of my earliest designs for the Derby Hat Collection and for a long time it was my widest brim. Measuring approximately 17″ end to end, there is something about the Liza that makes her easy to wear and  to love.

To kick off the new 2015 Derby Hat Collection,  I thought it might be fun to create a Liza that featured one of my favorite colors: silver!

I got started by fashioning a Liza hat foundation in silver dupioni silk.

Blog-LizaDer13-124B-Web.MedI handcrafted a Marguerite flower using platinum organza for the rose curl center and scrumptious silver silk organza for the petals. Silver silk organza “bow loops” were then fashioned to frame the floral centerpiece.

Blog-LizaDer13-124F-Web.MedOur new “Liza” chapeau makes her debut in the Derby Hat Collection today! The perfect choice not only for Churchill Downs but for weddings, teas, Royal Ascot and beyond.
