My name is Sally Faith Steinmann, and I am the owner and designer of MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS® Custom Millinery for Women. I specialize in ladies’ fancy hats for the Kentucky Derby, Royal Ascot, weddings, teas, and garden parties.
At MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®, the business is personal. All of my hats are handcrafted individually by me out of fine fabrics such as dupioni silk, taffeta and silk organza and are sized to fit you well. Custom design is my specialty, and I always welcome creative ideas for new designs!
I am also passionate about horse welfare. In particular, I support those who are trying to improve the lives of Thoroughbred racehorses while they are still racing and provide aftercare for them when they retire. In the fall of 2009 I created an innovative Derby hat auction series called “Hats Off to the Horses: The Road to the Derby”, that runs for 4 months each year and supports the retired racehorses of Old Friends in Kentucky. We just completed our 8th year of “Hats Off” and this unique fundraiser has raised over $31,000 in funds for Old Friends and at the same time helped to increase public awareness of the special needs of retired racehorses.

Hey there Sally! You started following my blog so I wanted to check out your blog and say, “Hi!” Horses and hats – how fun! I live close to Del Mar, and I know that women wear the most remarkable hats to the horse races there. I’ve never been to a horse race myself. I do love horses, however (well, all animals really). I’m impressed that you created a hat auction series to support retired race horses – that’s really great! Thanks so much for following – I appreciate it! Celeste 🙂

I don’t know much about the lives of racehorses. Hopefully I can learn more about their experience from your blog and then maybe I’ll write a post about it. Celeste 🙂

Hi Sally! I am so glad to find you “again”. I have several lovely Maggie Mae hats, and enjoy wearing them or looking at them on my shelf. I haven’t needed to shop lately, but recently directed a friend to your site. Wow, it looks great! And a blog too! I pray that you are well, and think fondly of our chats together when I was beginning my hat collection journey. Blessings to you and your business!
