The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!
Today we are featuring Hat #54, the “Taylor”, a brand new Derby top hat design that is found in Derby Hat Salon 3 at maggiemae.com.
Several days ago I debuted the “Taylor” chapeau, a brand new Derby top hat design with a flat wired brim that can be shaped for different looks.
Because I love black and white hat combinations, I wanted to make sure that I also created a black and white silk Taylor top hat for this year’s Derby and Royal Ascot.
I fashioned the base of the hat out of white dupioni silk, adding a flat, wired brim.
I trimmed the crown of the hat with a black and white pinstripe linen band. I then added black hat veiling all around the crown, letting it spill over the brim edges.
For the trim centerpiece I fashioned a double bow out of the same pinstripe linen as the band and added a spray of black silk organza “feathers” for a dramatic accent.
The final trim element was a black pebble button which I added to the back of the hat.
And our second new “Taylor” top hat design was finished and is now ready for your Derby adventure, Royal Ascot, carriage driving competitions and other equine sporting events!
