MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS® Derby Hat Countdown – 17 of 101

The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!

Today we are featuring Hat #17, the “Annabelle”, that is found in Salon 3 of the Derby Hat Collection at maggiemae.com.

Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-17HatsOur featured Annabelle was inspired by an original design of the same name, the Annabelle Der7-003, all in hot pink burnt linen. Annabelle’s playful personality, with her unique “butterfly” medium size brim, has made her a fan favorite for fancy teas and garden parties as well as the Derby since her debut.

Blog-AnnabelleDer7-003-B-2When I purchased the hot pink fabric for the original Annabelle I also ordered fabric in yellow tones. Yellows are hot this season, including a smooth yellow called Custard, and our yellow Annabelle is in good company to make her entrance this year!

The new Annabelle was fashioned from the yellow print burnt linen, adding a bold yellow linen solid for the underbrim.

Blog-AnnabelleDer7-009DFor the trim centerpiece, a delicate rose curl in lemon organza was added along with a medley of leaves.

Blog-AnnabelleDer7-009FA sash of rich yellow dupioni silk was laid around the crown and a matching button handstitched into place for the final accent.

Blog-AnnabelleDer7-009HAs I created the hat I wondered if I would like her as much as the original Annabelle in pink. The answer was a resounding Yes!  I hope you enjoy her too…

Blog-AnnabelleDer7-009GFor more views of the Annabelle chapeau shown above, please visit the Annabelle hat webpage.

And don’t forget to visit our Derby Hat Collection offering four new Derby hat salons this year featuring Big Brims, Extra Wide Brims, Flappers/Medium Brims, Fascinators, Cocktail Hats and Cloches.

MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS® Derby Hat Countdown – 80 of 101

The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!

Today we are featuring Hat #80, the Annabelle SMM7-010 hat design that is found in Salon 3 of the Derby Hat Collection at maggiemae.com.

Blog-DerbyHatCountdownPoster-2015-80HatsThe Annabelle design has been a favorite for the Derby and fancy teas since she was first introduced; she has been created for customers in many different fabric patterns and colors.

This Derby season I have had a major craving for black and white hats. It seemed to me that the Annabelle shape would be perfectly suited for creating a stylized black and white design for the 141st Run for the Roses!

I began the Annabelle hat with a foundation in white linen. I found a wonderful black and white pinstripe linen and fashioned a double bow and sash. Blog-AnnabelleSMM7-010B-CropThe “butterfly wings” of the back brim add a special twist to the hat.

Blog-AnnabelleSMM7-010FFor anyone like me who loves black and white hats, the new Annabelle will be perfect for not only the Kentucky Derby but also for fancy teas and Royal Ascot.

Blog-AnnabelleSMM7-010DFor more views of the Annabelle chapeau shown above, please visit the Annabelle hat webpage.

And don’t forget to visit our Derby Hat Collection offering four new Derby hat salons this year featuring Big Brims, Extra Wide Brims, Flappers/Medium Brims, Fascinators, Cocktail Hats and Cloches.
