The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!
Today we are featuring Hat #79, the “Elizabeth”, a Derby fascinator design that is found in Derby Hat Salon 4 at maggiemae.com.
Fascinators and cocktail hats have been making a splash at Churchill Downs for the last few years. A long-time tradition at Royal Ascot, fascinators are now considered by some to be as much a part of Derby tradition as the classic wide brims.
The original “Elizabeth” fascinator was created for a very special lady who needed just the right accent for her elegant black silk gown…
For this year’s Derby I am offering an Elizabeth all in red to celebrate the Run for the Roses!
Deep red dupioni silk forms the foundation for the new “Elizabeth” Derby fascinator. A medium red satin rose curl was created and then set into a medley of delicate red silk organza leaves to form the centerpiece of the design.
Red grosgrain ribbons, red veiling, twinkling red buttons and red tulle sprays are the finishing flourishes that truly make “Elizabeth” sparkle.
I think you’ll agree that the “Elizabeth” makes an elegant statement that is perfect for the Kentucky Derby and Royal Ascot as well as a fancy tea party!
