The Derby Hat Countdown continues featuring 101 Derby hats created by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS®!
Today we are featuring Hat #43, the “Felicia”, a medium size Derby chapeau that is found in Derby Hat Salon 3 at maggiemae.com.
The 2015 Kentucky Oaks is just 6 weeks away and I have a brand new pink chapeau to help my ladies celebrate Pink Out Day at Churchill Downs!
For the foundation of the hat I began with a fuchsia dupioni silk base.
For the trim centerpiece I created four “starfish” fleurs using pink organza for the petals and soft pink chiffon for the rose curl centers and set them aside.
Next, I took yards of luscious rose pink tulle, laid it over the entire brim of the hat and nestled all four flowers into it.
For the finishing touch I fashioned a sash out of hot pink shantung and placed it around the crown.
The new “Felicia” chapeau is ready at last for her Kentucky Oaks adventure and the grand Pink Out Day celebrations at Churchill Downs!
